Abstract
The accelerated ramp-up of the hydrogen economy requires a suitable and robust transport infrastructure. A hydrogen backbone grid for Europe needs to be developed for to connect main supply and demand centers. Especially for ship-based hydrogen imports, solutions other than gas pipelines are needed. New hydrogen transport technologies must be developed for this purpose. The technology platform TransHyDE evaluates and tests hydrogen transport solutions. It is advancing transport technologies in four demonstration projects based on key technological transport options: hydrogen transport in existing and new gas pipelines, hydrogen-liquid transport, and transport of hydrogen bound in ammonia or the carrier medium LOHC. An overview on development of hydrogen infrastructures in Europe and the research needs in the field will be given.
