Abstract
After a brief introduction of classical radar applications, a short overview of state-of-the-art radar technology is presented. For basic radar understanding, the chirp-sequence frequency modulation scheme and its advantages are shortly described. As an outlook, four future application areas for modern radar sensors are shown. A 160 GHz flexible sniffing probe is proposed for security and industrial applications. For human gesture recognition and unmanned aerial vehicle altimeter a 77 GHz radar is presented. The ground penetrating capability of radar is shown, using a low frequency FMCW radar for buried landmine detection.
