Abstract

Usually threads are tested by hand after manufacturing and often on a random basis. However, equipment is needed for built-in, automated testing guaranteeing a 100% control is possible.
For these reason, an automated thread control device has been developed as an intelligent tool holder with built-in sensors by ARTIS GmbH. The sensors detect the occurring torques and the relative stroke of the plug gauge. The detected data are transfered contact free to an evaluation unit.
Using this new device measurement of the thread length and checking compliance with specified tolerances are possible in process. The software of the measurement system was developed with LabVIEW and enables collecting, processing, visualization, documentation and reproduction of the measured data and tolerances. The measurement system of high resolution contains the tool holder with built in sensors, an industrial PC and an ARTIS DDU4.
The LabVIEW software runs on the stand-alone industrial PC.
The tool holder is aligned to the client specifications so that it can be used in almost every maschine.
With this new measurement system the thread quality can be measured in a time and cost saving way directly in the maschine.
